Re: Project 52 - Kristianna-Marie (Kris V)
I gotta say that I love the colours in the first photo. I don't think there's enough to grab me in the B&W conversion but in the colour there are some subtle yellow tones in the tree that contrast against that lovely blue sky to make it really stand out I think. The clouds are another detail that is lost in the black and white but they seem to delicately wrap themselves around the tree to highlight it further - especially how the lines in the clouds criss-cross to pull your eyes to the tree.
I'm not normally a fan of the leafless tree shot but I really love what you have here :)
Re: Project 52 - Kristianna-Marie (Kris V)
I like the color version better the B&W conversion lose to much detail and looks washed out.
Re: Project 52 - Kristianna-Marie (Kris V)
Thanks for the feedback. I prefer the colour version myself. Sam, I do agree with the loss of detail. But it's perfect to convert it to a PhotoShop Brush preset.

Week 5:A trip to Memory Lane:As far as quality goes: not so great, but as a memory, it's priceless!!!
The kids are now a Junior in college, and a Junior in High School. They will both graduate in 2013.

And a cropped edit: The background didn't do much for the picture.

You said it - it's certainly worth preserving! I like what you've done but I'm thinking that perhaps the vignetting is a bit too heavy. Either that or there's too much of it - does it look okay if you crop even tighter so there isn't so much black in the photo?

This is a much better version, I think. Much nicer colour and tone.
Re: Project 52 - Kristianna-Marie (Kris V)
Thumbs up from me too :)
But more importantly, what do you think of it Kris?
Night Donald :D

The retry was worth the effort. I emailed it to my daughter. She's printing it out. :D
Thanks for the feedback.
Sometimes things come together nicely!
Re: Project 52 - Kristianna-Marie (Kris V)
Week 6:
A try at collage. The location of these signs are at a location where it's hard to get a shot of the whole scene. A lot of traffic and no place to safely pull over.
There is a parking lot on the same side of the road, but it's to close to get the whole scene in a decent shot.
So, I shot each sign separately and put them together in a sort of collage.
The signs are the backdrop for a pond and fountain, and it's an awesome sight at night.
The dark background in each picture made this a fairly easy project.

Re: Project 52 - Kristianna-Marie (Kris V)
Um - very patriotic :D
My thoughts on this one - firstly I think the "God Bless America" lights aren't as sharp as the other sets. Not sure if it's a focus or exposure thing. My other comment is that the bottom set of lights has a reflection captured whereas the others don't so for me it look a little out of place.

Might be a focus problem - It was cold, windy and drizzling when I took these pictures, and the angle of view was pretty awkward.
You're right about the reflection - should have cloned it out.
Thanks for pointing that out. Note to self: Look at EVERYTHING before posting!
Re: Project 52 - Kristianna-Marie (Kris V)
Hi Kris, I see what you are trying to do by having a collage, they all have a patriotic theme, nice bright colours, however I find there is no focal point or anything that links the signs together into one image,
I can imagine the lights at night would be spectacular.

Week 7:
Spring is in the air! One of our dogwood trees is beginning to show flowers!

Re: Project 52 - Kristianna-Marie (Kris V)
Hi Kris,
Spring already? The time is flying this year - can't believe it's March already.
You've achieved great separation of your flowers from the background. The way the natural light hits the first flower looks very interesting too. I had a look at the histograms of both shots and I think they both need their exposure increased, and potentially their black points as well. They're looking just a little flat right now and I think increasing the exposure will really bring the life out of the flowers. I'd be interested to see what the first flower looks like in B&W as well.
The second photo doesn't grab me as well as the first. The flower is just a little busy for my tastes which makes it difficult to hold my eye.
Hope that helps!

I meant to say "almost March" :)
Re: Project 52 - Kristianna-Marie (Kris V)
Hi Kris, nothing like blossom to bring in the spring, must mean we are going into Autumn. :)
I agree with Mal about the exposure, and perhaps a little contrast, nice lighting on #1, perhaps a crop on the left would take the blossom off centre a little, just a thought.
#2, the focus is seems to be on the back stamens. the DOF in both shots is terrific :)
