    Project 52 - Kristianna-Marie (Kris V)

I took this picture - spur of the moment. Grabbed the camera and clicked.
I'm too impulsive for my own good - I could probably have done a lot better if I had paid attention to the settings
FWIW: Here is my first one - cropped and WB adjusted in LR - cloned out a bright spot on the right in CS5, Increased the red luminance just a little.

    Exif:

Sometimes impulsive is good too - helps you catch a shot that you might have otherwise missed.

What aren't you happy with? This isn't my forte so about the only thing I'll offer up is that the reds in the leaf look a bit... strange to me. It might be my monitor though.

For one thing - this shot really didn't require an ISO 800. On my monitor the color is almost like it was for real. - That's why it caught my attention, since it was so unusual. The reds show more saturated here than the tiff file on my computer.....
I have a few more shots from different angles - I'll play with them later.

I don't believe this one is going to be a keeper...

Hi Kris, the subject and coloring is great but a tad soft. If the leaf is still available and willing to pose for you, try reducing the ISO and increasing the f-stop to get the entire leaf in focus while retaining the bokeh effect. Even if you lose some of the bokeh you can more easily add DoF blur in PP than you can add sharpness. You say you have other shots from different viewpoints? Great! I'll bet you have a winner in your collection already but don't hesitate to look at this subject from a number of different viewpoints.

Hi Kris: I can see why this caught your eye, I really love the colours. I find myself being a bit impulsive too, but that's the kind of photography I like. When I am out certain things catch my eye and that is what I want to photograph and try to emphasize in the shot. I find that as I get better with the camera I am starting to automatically consider camera settings and composition even on the impulsive shots. I look forward to seeing more.

Thanks all for the feed back!
For week 2: Last Sunday started out with a lot of fog - got in the car and drove around the area, camera glued to my eyeballs. I believe I took about 300 pictures before the fog burned of and turned into a beautiful spring like day,
I ended up with about 10 keepers and I'm sitting on the fence with another 30.
Here is my favorite shot from this set:

I do like these low contrast images that work predominantly in the greys, without taking in the black & white points to ensure blacks and whites in the frame (very Paul Strand).

There are those who advocate a B & W image must have blacks and must have whites. I don't agree and something like this does, for me, make the point.

It can be difficult to get a misty scene which doesn't just look out of focus. But there is enough strong foreground in this image to work well.

I'm not sure about cropping out that part of a tree in the top right. I can't make up my mind, and I don't really want to lose anything from the top or bottom, or change the aspect ratio.

Maybe try to clone it out?

I would go with cloning over a
Crop that would change the aspect ratio. An impressive image by the way.

See, you need another set of eyes to find those little details. Now that you mention it, the treetop on the right looks a little distracting....
Didn't really see it while I was editing the photo - Thanks for bring it to my attention!

Nice work Kris. Love the shot and the treatment. There is a slight tint on this isn't there??? Whatever it is I really like it. Great shot, but I agree about the tree and glad that you will take it out.

Thanks Wendy. Yea, I'll clone the distracting tree branch out sometime tomorrow. And yes, after desaturating in LR, I used a Topz B/W tinted preset on a 2nd layer and reduced the opacity to 45%.

Hi Kris. If there is one thing I look for in almost everything I do, it's to have options to choose from. One option you could consider here is to gently blend in some of the sky with a soft brush at low opacity to get a similar look to the other trees that are in the fog. You may not like it any better but then again...

Better leave well enough alone - I'm making it worse.... - guess I looked at it for too long.
