That, I think, is very good. You've captured it at just the right moment. The tilt of the head is super. Lighting looks good to me (although the experienced portraitists will see more in that than I would).

Lovely capture Kelly. Great lighting effect
I'm not an experienced portraitist so take my comments with a grain of salt. I'm thinking though that because of the black background, you eye ends up being drawn to look at the full detail of the child in the photo. That being the case I'd be inclined in this case to go for a greater depth of field to keep more of their features in focus. My only other comment is that one eye is darker than the other which I think pulls you to one eye more than the other. Perhaps evening up the light in both eyes will help balance the portrait a bit.

Re: Crooked little smile
Hi Kelly.
Great attempt, i like the lighting it adds depth yes a deeper DOF may help but thats a matter of taste the eyes are sharp so it works for me, interested to know what lights you use because the catch lights in the eyes look like you've use 4 flashes giving 4 separate dots in eye, I find this a little distracting and would PP it into one myself. What lighting did you use?
Definitely a wall hanger for me though, Well done

Re: Crooked little smile
Thanks everyone!
The lighting was just a great big east-facing window in the early afternoon. The window has four sections to it, hence the four lights. Great tip to combine it!

Re: Crooked little smile
Hi Kelly, I'll throw in my newb opinion too!
The expression is great
I would like a little less shadow - perhaps you could use a reflector on camera left? A person wearing a white shirt just out of view would suffice (could add some light in the eyes this way too).
The shirt bunched up under his chin looks uncomfortable. Babies are always drooling or something, aren't they!
Details details, I get too caught up with them sometimes
Overall opinion - very cute photo that should be kept forever.
