superb...........I like it
wheres Superman?
LOL! That's exactly what I thought when I saw this!
Dave, what do you think about increasing the contrast on the B&W part a little bit?

I am not usually a fan of selective coloring but at times like this it works very well. The red phone box is an iconic symbol of the UK.
hahaha Superman was behind the camers
Like what Chis has done?
I like how you've got it darker Chris.
Thank you Richard. As I say, I tried colour and b&w but I thought this was the only way it worked.
I like the original contrast as it was more atmospheric ,minichris's is OTT
It may be more "atmospheric" but it's flat as a board...everything is tonally on the same plane. Something has to become focally different to create tension or a dynacisim which in the original simply doesn't exist. The red phone booth isn't enough to hold your attention when there's so much atmospheric "bleah" everywhere else I did little more than increase the contrast through two exposure levels, each time checking the histogram for tonal control. Each to his/her own and of course, my opinion is just that...an opinion.
thats why this site is so good ...................we respect each others opinions with no fallout
I went for the London Dr jekyll and Mr hyde look with a 80's phone box lol
I personally like the increased contrast in the mono part but geez Chris there are ways and ways of putting things and I don't think 'bleah' is a useful way of describing anyones picture.
Good shot Dave.
Great photo Dave, I really like the red phone box against the b&w. I do like your version Dave, sorry Chris It just makes the red box stand out more and the building a lot more pleasing to the eye. The extra contrasting in Chris's takes away from the box and makes the building more ominous.
Well said Sharon, I like both versions, but prefer the original with perhaps more detail and contrast in the phone booth only. Great shot AS IS but lots of room to play around with this one to get different effects and moods.

Sharon, Kerry, Wendy. Thank you for taking the time to look and comment. This is way I enjoy doing something a little different sometimes. Everyone has an idea what to do with it
Different is GOOD. If we all follow the rules all the time everything will end up looking the same. Different is the only thing that makes one photo stand out from the rest. Not to say the rules don't have a place BUT as far as I am concerned for the most part there is no right or wrong when it comes to creating an image. There is only personal taste and that is ALWAYS going to be different for everyone.
Wendy
At least no one has said the phone box should be in the rules of thirds lol
wheres Superman ?
I think I just figured out why I like the original so much. The tones remind me of a page from an old newspaper which I think suits the subject matter quite well. The colourized phone box of course wouldn't be found in an old newspaper image, but that's what makes it different. I think I would like the original even without the colourized phone booth. The muted tones give the shot an old faded photo look that really suits the subject matter.

Love it, in fact wish I took it! I'm sure it would look great on a small canvas.
