John - noneed to be gentle. I think that it is much better than my first photo post on cic!
Welcome.
I think you have managed the exposure pretty well. The only thing I'd ask is what is the subject that you want the viewer to focus on?
What Wayne said. That light on the right steals the show. Also wondering if you can correct the perspective on the leaning building. I'm terrible with that sort of thing so I can't suggest how, but I do think it would look better if the building could be straightened out.
Wendy
I like the composition. I think there's a few hotspots on the building itself in addition to the light on the right that take a little away from the building.
Keep at it! Looking forward to seeing your next post.
Thanks for the comments everyone. I agree that the street lamp is very bright and a distraction. I like the way it frames the shot, but its just too bright. I tried to crop it out, but that made the overall composition very awkward. Does anybody know of a way on PS I can bring down the intensity of just that light source? Seems like that would be a hard thing to do. Thanks!
Hello and congratulations for the great photograph!.
I don't notice a difference in perspective. Compare with:
Notice how a perspective transformation will leave either void edges unless the resulting image is cropped. Advice: when you're going to change perspective, take the widest DoF possible.
In my opinion the lamp to the right adds to the image. This is not a portrait of the hotel. Other objects do not detract from it.
