    Parliment House Canberra

    Hello,

This a photo of Parliment House in Canberra, it was taken on Australia Day from across the lake at the National Museum. I have applied some tonal adjustment using HDR Efex Pro. I am really impressed with the Nik range on offer. If you would like to see the original before the toning please let me know, any C&C most welcome of course.

    Cheers

For my personal taste, Jason it is over tonemapped. But many people like this approach. So, it is not an objective assessment, but a subjective comment.

A bit too much for me too - the sky doesn't look very real. But given that it's of parliament house, perhaps that's what you were going for

Thanks for the feedback guys. This was my first try with the HDR plugin from nik. I need to work on it some more, maybe pick a photo that would be better suited to tone mapping, I have seen photos of cars that have had the HDR/tone map done on them and look pretty good. I did do a B&W with SEP2 which I personally much prefer and have attached.

    Cheers

    Hi Jason,
a little overdone for me too, but I would like to see more of your work using you HDR plugin. As you say some compositions work better than others. Cheers

I prefer the B&W as well but there's still something about the clouds and sky that doesn't look right to me.

    Hey Mal,
Yeah I think that may have been a result of my overzealous processing trying to make the clouds more prominent in the original photo. I have added the original photo with no processing, you can see I did a bit of cloning as well to remove those items I thought got in the way.

You did a good job with the cloning. I'd try a B&W convert on the original and then have a play with it. I think it's worth a look

I think you are on the right track with this one, Jason. The cloning works and the image does need a bit more 'pop', but not quite as much as the first attempt. I'd be tempted to play with it some more as it's a great image to experiment with. You may be surprised at how far you can take this with a little more effort.

I like the potential in the sky, yeah overdone for my tastes in the original.
    But something like this?

    Re: Parliment House Canberra

Thank you all once again for the feedback and ideas. I have had another go of a redo of the original to bring out the clouds and colour a bit more, as well as a b&w conversion with SEP2, where I left it on the default and adjusted to what I thought was ok.

    Cheers

I think that last B&W works the best but I'm sure you'll figure out more tweaks as you get the hang of your new software.

    Hi Jason

Yes I think the last two images are good. One small point, judging by the flagpole, I think the image needs a bit of straightening.
