Tree tones... not sure about this..?!
I'm playing around with B&W in LR3, trying some things which Martin Evening talks about in his Lightroom Book...
This uses some extreme settings:
Tint at -150
and in the colour mix:
Green and Yellow both set at +100 (to lighten leaves)
Aqua and Blue both at -100 (to darken the dark sky)
Split toning (which I quite like!)
I've posted similiar before, but without having followed Martin Evening's steps. In particular, I didn't set Tint at -150 before.
Not sure what I think about this, one time I'll look and like it, then I'll think it's really quite naff..! What do others think?
This is 1280 x 848
Full res image can be seen here:http://iancds.smugmug.com/Other/Gall...#!i=1577644016
There's also something like a posterization effect, particularly at areas of high contrast. Some of this, as Dave has pointed out previously, is due to CAs, but - I think - not all of it. Is it partly an inevitable by-product of taking the colour mix to those extremes? Anyone know what happens / causes it?

Ian,
interesting effect. Not sure to be honest what I think. My first thoughts were it wasn't for me. Then I looked at it again 'large' view and it's started to grow on me. Now I'm confused to what side of the fence I stand, so you certainly have got me thinking. Would be interested to see more, so I can make my mind up. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, it certainly looks like an Infrared shot. And with plenty of clarity.

Re: Tree tones... not sure about this..?!
Ian - I like your second post. The tree against the sky and colors are great for me. 1& 3 I like.
For me, Where they lose it a little bit is at the base of the trees and the ground. take for example the first shot - the tree contrasts against the sky beautifully but once it hits the ground it gets lost amongst the other shadows and highlights.
I think if you could try getting more tree and less ground, the effect would have an even greater impact.
Well done nonetheless

I am with Peter. Second posts #1 and #2 are great. Post #2 is my pick of the litter. But they are all good. Certainly got me to thinking about some avenues to pursue and some things to try, Thank you for that!
Cheers

Hi Ian,
Ok you have won me over. As I said in an earlier post I wasn't too sure about this type of effect, now with the additional post I do like them, 1 & 2 are in my opinion the best. Well done.
