Play Misty For Me - Again

Here's another from my misty morning shoot at the end of last year. I'd appreciate your opinions on this as I really can't even decide myself whether I like it or not. Frank opinion welcome !!

Kerry I'm not very good at B&W conversions but I did try it with this shot. Here is the B&W version and also a Sepia version.

    I like this, Dave
Personally, I don't think the B&W adds anything...
It's almost monochrome already, the pink and blue in the sky and slight warmth over the water add to the atmosphere

Thanks Ian, I'm inclined to agree with your assessment of the B&W.

First impression: I like it Dave. Then, when I look longer I think it is ok. The mist itself is great (I love mist and did a small thread on it this summer) and the detail in the tree line looks very good, going from pretty clear to quite misty. I think the two trees left and right disturb me slightly. They distract. I think the tree on the left is fine and would be even better if it was slightly more to the middle of the photo. Maybe they are too far towards the edges for me, I don't know.
What were your thoughts about the photo and what made you doubt it?

Peter I find it hard to put my finger on what causes my doubts. It's like your description - sometimes i like it and other times I'm not so sure. I see what you mean about the dead trees but I don't think that's what causes my doubts.

I like the fine detail in the trees and the mist but I guess sometimes I think the image is just a bit "dull" or "subtle".

    Anyway, thanks for commenting.

The image is really nice and I like it.
Only one comment: the upper left corner looks blown out. I understand you had to quite a challenge in PP but if you can tone that corner down a bit it will look better.
That's how my eye see it, and I'm not perfect

I like the original just the way it is. To me it has a quiet haunting feel to it that is fleeting as the sun evaporates the morning mist.

...and that is my 'Frank' opinion.

Great capture Dave. Well composed and the mist is a nice soft gradient. I Prefer the color version personally. The B&W and sepia versions really don't do the original any justice.

Colour for me too Dave, I like the subdued greens in the forest.

I like the original one, also. As I look at it, the soft colors make me feel the misty morn, like I am in a small fishing rowboat and sipping a cuppa while waiting for the fish to bite. Nice!
