I have taken/shown worse before, at this size, sharpness isn't too bad.
The most noticeable thing is the elevated black point such that (excepting sharpening transients) there is no black, only shades of grey.

Soooo close to outstanding. I think its a keeper so long as you keep it small. I dont shoot BIF much, but rarely like my results when I'm less than 1/1000sec. Nice job, esp. at 800mm

Yes that is very slow for a handheld bird shot. Even a sitting bird would be a challenge to avoid camera shake with that size of lens..
Today, I was trying some garden bird shots with a mere 500 mm lens and 1/1000 shutter speed which meant needing an ISO of 1000 or more to obtain F8. Haven't started editing them yet but I've already thinned them down from 150 shots to just 20 possible keepers.
And that was using a tripod.
