My first insect!
Hey guys, just caught my first insect on film. I don't think my lens (Tamron 18-200mm f3.5-6.3) is very good for macro type shots, but I managed to snap these. Great fun!

Hi John,
I know nothing about Macro photography but they look good to me. I wish I could capture something like it, up to now I've had no real success. Did to take these handheld (surely not), just shows I've a lot to learn. Well done.

Re: My first insect!
I shot these handheld, both at f8.0, the first at 1/320s and the second at 1/500s. I was shooting at 400iso which allowed me to go faster on the shutter speed. I did have to adjust the exposure slightly during PP. And of course, I took about 20 shots and only a couple of them were any good. But that's about my usual %.

Re: My first insect!
You did pretty well given that you weren't using a true macro lens. Bees aren't known for sitting still for long periods of time either so well done.

Re: My first insect!
Hi John,
A good start there.
You certainly prove that using a higher iso is;
a) nothing to be afraid of, and
b) gives benefits
As a matter of interest, which way did you have to adjust the exposure in PP?
I am guessing 'down', because the red channel looks well blown (often happens with flowers), of course, that means you could have had an even higher shutter speed.
Pretty good compositions on these crops too, well done,

Nice shots John, I envy you. Just snow down here.
You had me puzzled momentarily with that 'film' remark.
