Ground Squirrel
In the Khutse Game Reserve – Botswana larger wildlife is hard to find and a lot of time is spent making the best in the campsite. This particular campsite is shared by Ground Squirrels and once they get used to us they become quite confiding.
C&C most welcome

Re: Ground Squirrel
Nice sharp image! The squirrels around here are much too skiddish to get close shots like these.

Real nice (sharp) pics Clive.
Which gear did you use?

Re: Ground Squirrel
I like the closeup #1, nice study. #2 I wish you had the entire animal (tail included) but it is a a good image of the squirrel in it's environment. Are these guys in colonies; like the Richardson's Ground Squirrel or Prairie Dogs in the North American prairies, or solo like Chipmunks?

Re: Ground Squirrel
Thanks all for the C&C. Frank - it took many hours for the squirrels to get used to us in the campsite, sometimes they are impossible to photograph.
Pierre - many thanks, at the time I was using my Sony DSCH1 with the teleconversion lens, although not a very flexible camera compared to a DSLR but it still works.
Trevor - many thanks, I must look back at the original image and see if I cropped the tail! The Ground Squirrel does live in colonies or loose family groups.

Re: Ground Squirrel
Squirrels will become your friend in seconds if you have peanuts to hand out.
#1 is a top shot, I really like it. #2 is nice but as the replies ahead of mine say...
Btw, there is a Squirrels thread in this same subforum where some of us share our squirrel shots. You may wish to put there as well.

Very nice Clive. I laughed outloud when the first one came up. Very curious fellow.

Re: Ground Squirrel
Bobo - ours like peanuts as well, but they take them underground, probably for a squirrel banquet when it gets dark. I will post some more on the "squirrel thread"
Mark and Paul - many thanks.
