I like the first one, because we've got things other than the animal and water; i.e. the wood in the background etc. I think that 'fills out' the image and gives more contact to the scene.
But, I wonder if we need to so much water? In other words, I was wondering how it would look if you were to crop at the bottom and make it a 2:1 ratio. That would also take the beast off the half-way line and place it closer to the bottom horizontal third and, arguably, provide a better balance.
Yes I see what you mean, I'm really happy with it. The wood really adds to the scene anchoring it. Removing some of the water makes the crocodile stand out quite a bit more. Thanks for the suggestion Donald.
