Ancient Riverside Church in Evening Sunshine
This is All Saints Church Bisham on the River Thames near Marlow as the sun was setting last Tuesday. This was one of the brilliant sunsets we get at this time of year, making the 12th century Norman tower stand out like a jewel.

Re: Ancient Riverside Church in Evening Sunshine
I like the close-up better. Primarily because the front of the church is not as bright (blown out?). However, I think that the left side could be cropped just a tiny bit tighter to eliminate the foliage of the tree on the photographer's side of the river which intrudes just a bit into the frame.
This looks like a very peaceful place and I am sure that the graveyard would havesome wonderful stories to tell if it could...

I also like the second one much better. More detail, and you did imply the subject being the church and the tower. I also agree with the cropping.

4th vote for the close-up version.
Why?
It is such a jewel (in this light) that it doesn't need or deserve to be vying with the river, or the trees, or that railing on the pathway, for attention. It needs to be centre-stage.
There may be times when the lighting better dictates that it is seen within its setting. But on this occasion, no. Other than Richard's point re the small clone or crop at the left, then that second one is a lovely image. Right place:Right time. And the skill to execute it. Well done, Chris.

Thanks for your kind comments. I have edited the close-up as suggested.
