Re: Mackniac
Hi Jon,
Like the cloud street (no. 4). Great colours, leading lines. Top left burnt out which I find distracting.
Butterfly is okay. I find it too central to show the environment well (the eye sees the butterfly and stops, doesn't wander), perhaps a different composition would be to have the butterfly further from the centre (thirds). Alternately, have the butterfly as a greater point of interest - i.e. a much closer composition.
First one, nice BW, but I feel off balance to the right (is it straight?).
Stoned shot. Background too distracting (shallower DoF would work), stones very central, horizon wonky. Nice colours thogh, may also work well BW.
Overall, some good points, some points need work - but it's all subjective.

Re: Mackniac
My first thoughts about the butterfly, Jon, was to rotate through 90 degrees before cropping. So that the flower stem would rise from the bottom of your image and look more natural.

Re: Mackniac
Hope you don't mind Jon, I took the liberty of adjusting the cloud street pic a little.
Straightened horizon and lightened the foreground a little more to my own tastes (and it's amazing how many tastes there are out there).

Re: Mackniac
Geoff, thanks for your input about flower stem being rotated to the bottom, but the flower stem actually came from the side. I agree that it would "look" more natural, but I would know different

Re: Mackniac
The first picture is such a welcome scene given it's the view you get on the ferry ride to the island! Seems you captured Mackinac very well, one of the most beautiful places in Michigan to visit!
