Unfortunately, due to Hurricane Sandy, more than likely the Oak Beach Inn car show will never happen again.

Im on the south shore of LI in Nassau county and we we got rocked hard by the storm. Are you are in south Jersey or North Jersey?

If and when the roads are re-opened that go to the beaches, I'll try to take some aftermath pics. All of my favorite hangout spots at Robert Moses, West End of Jones Beach, Fire Island Light House, OBI suffered extensive beach erosion. I've been without power for the last 4 days with no chance of it being restored anytime soon.

South Jersey, mid way between AC and Philly! I was just up in Rockville center having a BBQ week before last! Did OBI take the brunt of the surge?

Pretty much from Montauk to Brooklyn took the brunt of the storm surge. OBI was somewhat protected because of another barrier island (Robert Moses) is infront of it, but it didnt matter much. I havent seen pictures of whats left of Jones, Gilgo, Oak Beach yet, but Long Beach (LI) got decimated.

Overtaking one of these (or in one of these) would be "interesting"!

If they overtake you.......you hold just your breath, till the overtaking is done

    Griddi......
Nice pics, they now come into the north of NSW as well, though I think they are limited to 3 trailers. In the old days the bitumen on the road to Darwin was only 1 lane wide. A wise person driving towards one pulled off the black stuff in plenty of time, which ensured they did not shower you with stones.

To overtake was quite an exercise. They used to and probably still do weave slightly all of the time so the driver can keep and eye on his tyres.

You think the weaving isn't deliberate; I've been with an instructor abeit in a little 50' long truck who delighted at weaving when being in close proximity to a car and tipper drivers deliberately aim for mirrors; especially wide ones like the ones on a Renault 385.

I used to give myself enough room on the nearside to just pull in at the last moment thus denying them of their evil pleasure.

    Re: Spotted in Yorkshire Dales

I liked the look of this sleek black machine on the day when there were the Diamond Jubillee Rallies in the Yorkshire Dales. (Not a lover of motor bikes though since a son died on one 28 years ago).

    Automobile 101

Then there were these 3 beauties parked in the Wensleydale Cheese Factory carpark.

    Automobile 101

The following are some which came past the caravan site we were staying on at Clapham. I just sat on a wall and watched them trundle past, pointing a EF 75-300 lens at them. (The Illkley Motoring Club Jubillee Rally)

    Automobile 101

We used to cruise around in one of these 50 years ago as likely lads.

    Automobile 101

    Lovely motor these were.

    Automobile 101

Not often you see these on the road. Notice the little FIAT at the back ..

    Automobile 101

..with it's special super cooling flap at the rear.

And this one was our transport of delight this July in Florida, a Dodge Charger. It took 5 of us everywhere we wanted to go in airconditioned comfort. (If Clarkson ever reads this - you are wrong, American cars are great, in America) The 'model' is David, one of my grandsons, then 15.

I love this thread. My apologies for posting my poor efforts.

@ Griddi that is a true land train, I am happy I dont have to deal with passing that!! Great shots btw.

@ Keith those are some great shots, thank you for sharing your efforts! I especially like the Fiat, not many people know why the owners open the hatch! JC has admitted on several occasions to liking American cars, but I think you nailed it that they are great in America.

    Random shots:

The last shot is an HDR, tried to do some retouching, and get it back to normal, but I failed!!

    Thanks

Is that an Fiat Bambino Abarth? They supplied them with the a little brace to hold the hatch open to cool the "high performance" engine!

I have photo of one somewhere, I will dig it out and post it.

It was a Fiat Bambino Abarth and the 'cooling flap' caught my eye as it went past me.
