Very serene Donald That would look nice as a canvas on the wall. I find shooting birds very therapeutic ... unless they are hopping from limb to limb and my lens is focusing backand forth , then they finally sit still wth the sun right behind em, yup very therapeutic, lol i love em though!

    Donald,

I don't know what it is but there is something about black and white images for me anyway, that creates a mood and atmosphere which doesn't happen in colour. Two things that this does is, that it makes me want to try B+W images and take beautiful images like you have done!

    Cheers for now

    Gary

The way I see it, Gary, (with which some people will disagree), is that a colour image is about colour. And colour has a vibrancy. How colour is used in the image to work with the other elements in the image is, I think, important. It shouldn't be there just because that happened to be the colour of the scene. It needs to have a purpose. If you're not photographing for the colour, then why make a colour image?

Now, of course, colour images can be subtle and atmospheric (there are many on here who excel at producing such images). But with a colour image you are including an 'additional' element (colour) that has to balance up with all the other elements in order to work.

With the colour stripped out, then you have to concentrate solely on the tones, textures, lines and shapes. And that, if you do manage to get it right, does, I think, focus our attention on mood and atmosphere. And also, I like the challenge. Or maybe it's just that adding in colour as well would be too much of a challenge for me!!
