    Food to go ...

    Hi all,

A shot from one of last weekend's local photographic forays.

    Food to go ...

    Nikon D5000 + Sigma 18 - 250, 1/1500s @ f6.3, ISO400 at 250mm

It's odd, the lens seems to be almost permanently at this end of it's range

    Comments welcome.
I'll pre-empt anyone who is too shy to tell me it's over exposed , but I felt the content made it worth posting anyway.

BTW I don't think this is a fish (I might be wrong on this occassion), these birdies seem to live on the abundent insect life, like the creatures I put in the another little beastie thread.

Interesting you should say that Dave, I have found my Sigma 150-500mm lens seems to have welded itself to my D90 and is permanently set at 500mm.

Nice capture, you got the moment and to me, thats what counts!

Nice shot, I wouldn't say it was overexposed, but have you considered a closer crop on the bird?

Heh, 500mm? I pretty much shoot at 12mm the whole time these days...

I did, but thought the splash added something, i.e. it diverted the viewer's attention away from the over-exposed bit

    See what the others think.

    Thanks,

    Dave

I think the focus is pretty good considering that shallow depth of field. I had not realised how shallow it can be with those settings. The wing tips are out and the water just behind. It is a nice shot. I always seem to get the beak far left frame or the rear end frame right

the moment, the action of the bird, its body language, the expression are well caught composition needs a drastic change....too much space at the rear of the bird

    Have a guess :)

    Re: Food to go ...

The OOF is probably just motion blur - it won't be a DoF issue at that aperture and length.

I had a similar issue with this shot ...
