Several of my neighbors have been sending me images they've taken with
their P&S, cell phone or "other" cameras, and I've been retouching and reprocessing
them just for the practice (and, of course the neighbors appreciate it too..lol).
Old fellow sent me this pic that he had taken in Yellowstone many years ago,
and it was taken with a Sony Mavica that stored the pics on a 3.5" floppy. These
cameras were not actually digital, but were on the leading edge at the time.
He said: "See what you can do to fix it up"
Me: "Sure Bill..you betchya"...)
The original image size was 640x480, so there's really not a lot of data there to
work with:
Working in Lightroom 3.6, there wasn't really much I could do to it without creating
an unacceptable amount of noise, and after several attempts I gave up and decided
it had more potential as a B&W.
Messed with the sliders a bit, and decided to selectively color in the flowers, as they
seemed to be the best feature/main element of the pic. Cranked it up to 300% and
then hand-painted the flowers with the touch-up brush.
Tried this version with and without the graininess:
The grain seems to cover-up the bad pixels in the upper right corner while giving the
pic a different "flavor"..
And finally with a white vignette ...not my favorite, but the wife likes it better..
What would you have done with it? Feel free to have a go at reprocessing the
original and sharing your results...
And of course, C&C is always appreciated...
