    ACCEPTING ENTRIES: Mini Competition #922

This is an open-themed competition that is open to all CiC members.

ENTERING. Add your image in a new post below. Make sure to change your post title to a name for your picture (click the "Go Advanced" button). Only one entry per person. For help posting images, go here.

VOTING. When this competition reaches 10 entries, a poll will be automatically added and any member may then vote. After 2 days, voting ends and the winner is determined.

Once voting begins, a new competition will be automatically started.

    Good luck!

Notes: Please do not request feedback or comment on other images until after voting has closed, as it could be unfair to other entrants. Photos must be your own, and never entered into one of our prior competitions. We also ask that only recently taken or edited photos be used as entries (in the spirit of motivating everyone to continually improve).

PS: Make sure to also vote on the previous competition here.

Wish there was a way to convey the chill in the air and the briskness of the wind. The shot I posted earlier of the high surf was shot on the same day, and shot by turning to a 45 degree angle and refocusing...I really liked the buildings through the salt spray and dearly would loved to have a 400 or 600mm lens that day.

Nice image, but the lighting is all wrong for the sky presented...with that much yellow in the sky, the building should have reflected at least 25% of it given it is a white building. Next time, try framing so there is more to the right and less to the left as this building has a tendency to move to the right, much like a car would with nowhere to go.

    Thanks for comments, Chris

There was a really ugly outbuilding just to the right of the barn so I was quite restricted. I grabbed this image just before dark, so I exposed for the highlights in the sky, leaving the barn quite dark in the original image. I raised its exposure in a separate layer- perhaps too much for the prevailing light?

At the risk of being pushy, while I liked your shot, I felt like it tried to tell the story with too much background distraction. In my edit, I've gotten down to the real essence of the shot: one bird feeding another. Cropping, or as I suggest to my students, filling the frame, is what separates a good photo from the rest of the crowd.

I would have added a clear layer and washed a light yellow orange over the facing edge of the barn, lower the opacity and adjust according to the shadows - probably darker at the front edge lightening as you go back toward the light...you could actually do a dupe layer, and use the quick select tool for the face of the barn and a gradient fill, orange to yellow...

Sort of like this..but keeping in mind this is a quick and dirty fix.

    Thank you, Chris

I'll experiment with this. Could be a very helpful learning opportunity. Thanks for taking the time .
