Can anybody recommend a bag in the same price range that would accommodate the 70-200 (mounted...?) along with 2 lenses and 2 flashes + triggers etc.

    Thanks in advance!
The Lowepro Sling Shot 300 AW - but there may be a more recent larger one (400 perhaps?).

The problem is with the single shoulder strap - it becomes too much for one shoulder with time. I modified my 300 AW by adding a strap for the other shoulder. It's easy to release, making it easy to slide the bag to the side for access (without having to put it down - the whole idea behind the SS).

The extra strap also makes the bag very stable (someone on a forum added a strap for carrying on a motorcycle).

    Hi,
The bigger the bag the more you will carry.
What about this http://www.vestedinterest.com/ as another idea

    Thanks Glenn.
The 300AW should suffice, I was more worried about the shoulder strap. Making an extra strap is a cheaper solution if I can squeeze things in to the 200.

To digress, did you copy and paste the link from the photography-on-the-net.net site itself? For the past few months all I get when I go there is a "The server at photography-on-the.net is taking too long to respond." message. I thought it was a site problem, but if it s still accessible, then must be a TW block or something;I've experienced the same thing on different computers.

Yes, I copied and pasted. I can get into POTN within a second of clicking on the link.

The site is running just fine.

That's strange. I haven't been able to access it for months. It is usually on first page of Google when I browse for info, but it always gives me the same timeout message.

I took a few new pics (can't find the ones from a few years ago) and put them up on box.net:\

    http://www.box.com/s/nqm3bsu3yy46m6ocgitc
This pic shows the bag open with a 5DII and a 100 macro lens. There are four squarish slots for lenses and one on the right for another body (the 30D took the picture). In the slot for the extra body, I have both camera manuals.

    http://www.box.com/s/sehgkl4ndxjxnl22al18
This is a closeup at the top of the bag showing the original shoulder strap and the one I added. I had a shoe repair shop do the sewing.

    http://www.box.com/s/6kc56avffq9jx7n53uq4
    Another shot at the top.

    http://www.box.com/s/m8a2vskqjd2hjqan52ox
This one shows where the new shoulder strap connects to the waist strap. The new strap is made by Lowepro - I was fortunate in that the shop where I deal had one in stock. Also note where the new strap "threads into" the original shoulder strap - this isn't necessary but it keeps the straps from flopping around.

In use, I undo the new strap at the buckle where it attaches to the waist strap - then it's just like the original and can be slid sideways for access.

If you are carrying a zoom on the main body, then the lens pocket that I presently store one lens in can be where the longer zooms fits. This still leaves enough room three lenses and a spare body (or two flashes and one lens).

In the space immediately above the main camera (first pic) I have three filter cases and one battery charger - the other charger is in the exterior pouch along with a remote release and some charts, etc.

Thanks a lot for the trouble to take the photos and detailed explanation. It looks like it would be a lot more comfortable and practical. The 300 also looks like it has a better waist strap. What is that near the buckles on the original shoulder strap? I find it slides a lot when the bag is packed heavy; I'm assuming you had the same problem.

On the original shoulder strap. Sorry, I said buckles, which it isn't... I'm not sure of the correct word--the place where you adjust the length of the strap, there appears to be either a knot or something tied around the strap.

OK, in this image, the new strap (with the buckle) is sewn to the waist strap of the bag.

On the existing shoulder strap, the 300 has a second small strap sewn to the main shoulder strap. I put the new strap under this small strap to keep the new shoulder strap in place. This small strap is about one inch (25 mm) wide. The upper end of this small strap attaches near the Lowepro logo. I have no idea what it was put there for, but it served my purposes quite well.

    Does this help?

I'm a bit slow responding today as I'm setting up this new Win7 computer so it won't download images from my cameras to the wrong drive (I never store any files on the C: drive), but it's being obnoxious. And it took me 20 minutes to get an update for my Canon software.

    Hi Glenn

Yes, that helps a lot. I understand what you mean. Thanks for the input!

Good luck with your setup, I haven't been brave enough yet to go to Win7.

It wasn't bravery - LR3.6 would take several minutes to load one image - so bad that it was making me think twice about taking a lot of images. Now they just flicker by.

And the modification was worth it. I think the strap was maybe $20 CAD and another $20 for the sewing job, but it saved my left shoulder.

Oh, OK. Got it. I didn't know W7 was faster. I use my computers mainly for audio production and every time I've switched to new OS' I've had teething problems, which I can't afford when I'm working on tight deadlines. But LR does work incredibly slow on notebook I use it on, so I should consider making the move.

Thanks, the strap does look more comfortable, and my shoulder would appreciate it. Thanks again!!

I've arrived at the two carriers conclusion as well. For the actual traveling which is generally in a RAV4 but sometimes on planes, I got an insulated 4-pack beer cooler on wheels (that means, if you're not familiar with that kind of container, it holds four six-packs of beer, sode, or water with ice. The insulation is padding which minimizes potential damage; the large opening means I can get both hands inside the container. When I get to wherever I'm going, a compressable sling backpack comes out of the cooler. I put into it the pieces I'm going to need for that small segment of my trip, including a diffuser, lights, etc. And the tripod is securely strapped to the outside of the backpack.

I'm very familiar with beer coolers of all sizes . I don't think I'll be traveling anywhere significant soon but that sounds like a great idea for when I do.

    Kenny,
I too have been using a Lowepro SlingShot 200 and ran out of space a couple of months ago. I just received my new Lowepro ProRunner 350 AW and now have everything packed. I ordered it on Amazon.com at a good price = $109.00. It should work fine for you.

Those look pretty neat for the price.
