I'll look into the Silver Efex Pro 2, yet one more thing to learn. Yes I may have overdone the tone, could have been either too much...or too little. I at least now have a benchmark.

If you can darken your sky, you might make it more dramatic looking. Did you try any "color filters" out in your PP? Might bring out more textures. Also, perhaps a crop to offset the spires somewhat. I just started using Silver Efex. It works marvelously on those areas. Also you can increase your "structure" which shows up as more detail. It's worth your investment.
