Origin of camera

Hi

Is there any way of checking a camera's country of origin (not where it was made, but designated country where it is to be sold). When I took a lens to be repaired last month, the guy at the Canon repair center took one look at the serial number and knew that it was bought in Hong Kong. I assume cameras would be the same.

I'm selling my 450D and would like to check if it was bought in Taiwan or not, as there is a big gray import market in Taiwan and the origin would affect the possible selling price since Canon charge high testing fees for gray import cameras.
