First Flower Picture for 2012http://images2.cambridgeincolour.com/smilies2/biggrin.pn
I don't know what it was but, using a hand held Nikon D7000 with ISO 400, f16, 1/50 sec, the 18-105mm kit lens at 105mm, then cropped, it looked something like this.

It must be exciting to be seeing flowers!
My guess is that it is a daffodil.

Kevin, I look forward to seeing some flowers as well. Winter has worn it's welcome. I hope you don't mind, but I had a little play with your flower as I thought there was a bit of detail getting lost somewhere. I gave the flower itself a little localized contrast and a bit of sharpening. Maybe a hair to much sharpening for its size.
If you find it offending I will be happy to remove it.

Thank you Paul. I like it. I new some of the detail was getting lost, but after several shots this was the best I could do. I was blocking the sun with my body, but I wondered if maybe a diffuser would have worked better.
Thank you Hazel and Ryo. I will check out the daffodil ID.
