    Playing with vignettes.

Recently read a couple of magazine articles about impressionist work being done by photographers but left it at the back of my mind.

While doing pp on something else that needed a vignette, thought maybe that there has to be some other way of going about it. Then remembered those articles and did some fooling around in PS and came up with these.

I think the "mutilation" helps focus on the main point of the subject and at the same time not use the "standard" ways of doing so.

In the first the thought was to emphasise the circling branches from the straight trees. In the 2nd the Loch Ness monster coming up in the lake.

What are you thoughts? Did I just waste a couple of hours of my life?

    Thanks for looking.

    Hi Bobo,

As a personal opinion, I think is better to apply to whole image. May works better with "simetrical images", reflexions...but is my .... feeling
You didn't waiste your time, good job.

Bobo, I agree with Leo. I would like to see both of these fully done. The second will work I am sure but I am curious as to the first one, I like what I see so far!

    Hey Bobo,
Really like the first one, I am a fan of things a bit different and that really catches my attention, I just like looking at it. As for the second, I agree that fully done may suit this one better.

    Cheers

    Thanks Leo, Paul, Jason.

Yes 2 looks to be a bit too abrupt in the middle.

    Couple of variations.

Love the first on Bobo. Not sure about the way the tone changes near the top of the tree though. Is it just my screen or do the tones change from sepia/grey to green around the branches at the top of the tree. I think I would like it even better without that change

My first reaction upon seeing the first images posted and then reading Leo and Paul's comments about the effect needing to applied to the whole image, was that they were wrong. But it was me that was wrong and they are absolutely correct, particularly in relation to that second one that you re-worked. They had much better vision on this than I did.

I think this now becomes a very good abstract piece of work.

Having driven the road alongside Loch Ness literally thousands of times in my life (use to do it about 3 - 4 times per week), I can absolutely, categorically and without any doubt, assure you ------------------------ there ain't no b....... monster.

    Or maybe there is.

    Anyway, it's good for tourism!

I really like the first image of the second group. It has caught my eye and imagination. I love the tones with this one. I also did not like the first group of images and I am pleasantly surprised to see the whole image processed works so well.
