I completed my New Year's resolution...

My resolution this year was to sell a photo.
Today I collected from 5 people to take photos of their kids... playing ice hockey... all proceeds go to the hockey association
    I think that counts!
5 more to go in the next week.

    Just wanted to share

    Congratulations, Brian!

And for a good cause, too.

May this be the first of many!

    Good on you Brian.

I wish I had the confidence to believe that someone might actually be prepared to give me money for something I produced.

Oh Donald, you're certainly good enough, but do you want the hassle and dsitraction of organising it all? That's the question.

Re: I completed my New Year's resolution...

    Thanks everyone!

Dave makes a good point. Since I already have a full time job - that pays pretty good and has great medical benefits - this is not a career ambition for me, but rather a milestone! I may pursue some part time stuff, we'll see how that goes.
The next question is - since people are actually PAYING for these, will I get any customer complaints!?
People telling you a free photo is great is one thing, this is something totally different. Or maybe it's not?

Donald - get over it. The last photo I saw you post is wonderful, though I can't comment on it while voting continues
This raises a good question too, can you take the pictures you love and get paid for them? For me the answer is no - because no one has offered to buy a picture of my kids LOL. So as an artist I am compromising and taking photos of their kids haha!

Brian - congrats on such a quick result from your resolution, and it benefits more than just you! I have yet to ever make a New Years resolution...maybe I should, I just hate commitment though...

Thank you Pierre, I don't usually make them either, but for some reason I really wanted to do this.
I guess I'm shallow and need validation from others

    Nah! That will never happen!

I have two businesses as well as a full time job! There are only two things I really can't stand about owning your own business; employees and customers! If it weren't for those two minor things, owning a business would be great!

The complaints will come from the photographer when he starts getting tax #'s, state sales tax responsibilities, business licenses, zoning issues, invoices, accts. payable, accts. due, cash flow, cancellations without notice, amortizations, accountants...

...jeez, I'm giving myself a headache!

    LOL Terry.
Today was a good day, picked up another 'client' and am 2/2 with unsolicited comments on my hockey pictures.
They were described as 'awesome' and 'fantastic'

Wow what a crazy 3 weeks!
Compliments now include 'best ever', 'kick a$$', 'amazing', and 'incredible'.
I just finished the hockey season, and I'm looking forward to a slow paced weekend.
During all of this I started a Facebook page and a new web site.

Way to go! Can we see some of your hockey photos? What sport is next up to photograph this season?

    Of course!

Some of the early games games:
I completed my New Year's resolution...

I completed my New Year's resolution...

I completed my New Year's resolution...

Then some people started asking about individual photos, which I only did for my son's team since I was so busy:
I completed my New Year's resolution...

I completed my New Year's resolution...

I completed my New Year's resolution...

And one favorite from the coaches game:
I completed my New Year's resolution...

    Any critique is welcome!
    Thanks

Funny that, I just sold my first photo too, a canvas print which made me very happy and proud. Proceeds go to my dept recovery program to pay back my credit card for the huge amount of outlay required to buy the needed equipment to take the photo. Lets sell some more Brian, its fun isn't it?
