First Snow of 2012

Back in Jan. we had our first snow of the season over a night and morning, and
then it began to clear just enough to get some Sun breaks. Overall I shot over
375 frames in that one day, and this is the first of the images to be processed.



6 Frames blended in LR/Enfuse, and then processed in LR 3.6 and PSE 10.
ISO 200, f/16, 18mm and exposures from 20s to 1/320s. For the best view
hit f11 and then open in the lightbox.

This is also my first effort at "framing" an image using PSE 10, and I'm not the
most "color coordinated" person, so be gentle if I picked the wrong colors..lol

Beautiful, can't wait to see more. Colour choice for the frame looks great to me, not sure about the widths though, I think I'd try less white with an even wider outer green border. Not really sure though, I never know until I acutally try it.

To be honest, I read this thread yesterday and was a bit overwhelmed at the
responses, and was somewhat speechless..didn't know what to say... .

Several of my clients/friends would like to order prints of the pic, but this
is new ground for me as I've only printed one of my images previously. Now, I've
been asked to release this as a Limited Edition of 250 (suggested by one client who's
been a collector for many years) and I already have requests for 5 of them.

Couple questions:

Any thoughts on how this might look if printed on canvas?

It is inexpensive enough to get a copy made at Wally-World (Wal-Mart) in that size so that you can judge for yourself but it likely is. Most people would not be viewing it up close but likely as a wall print.

Mike, I am sure it will look fantastic printed on whatever you like. Canvas would be nice as the canvas has a little texture this is about the only type of shot I really like on canvas. Personal thing I think. I have almost always went for straight paper type print, but since my start with Smugmug I tried something new for me....printing on aluminum. I must say it is now one of my favorite ways to print. The quality and clearity you get is absolutely fantastic. As for your size, I have printed smaller files at 16x20 with great results.

I'm no expert Mike, but the pixel dimensions you quote (4288 x 2848) sound like the sensor's shooting format (3:2 ratio), not the cropped(?) and downsized aspect ratio we have here of 1197 x 896 (4:3 ratio), neither of which are 10" x 8" (5:4 ratio) you think you have. Admittedly, I have included the borders in my figures, but that looks about equal (by eye) so won't affect the aspect ratio much. Having said that; I just measured the image and divided that and it is pretty much 3:2 - is it uncropped Mike?

So, before downsizing, what was the longest side's pixel size?
Just divide that number by say 20 (inches) and it'll give you a ppi figure - the answer should be more than say, 150 for canvas printing (or maybe 180-200 for glossy paper). In other words, you want the longest pixel side size to be about 3000 to 4000 pixels, which I expect it is, so you should be fine.
