My doggy Cupcake

The image makes me want to smile so it is a good picture!
As far as being photographically a bit better, I would think that if you turned the camera just a bit to your right, you might have the entire dog in the image. Additonally, although the longer nose makes the dog look a bit humorous, I think that you might have been a bit better off to use a longer focal length and to have shot from a longer lens to subject distance...
Keep shooting and posting. Dogs are patient subjects and never tell you "Don't take my picture, my hair is a mess!" like the women in our lives are prone to do.
BTW: My wife just got a Powershot ELPH 100hs and she loves it!

I love this image, you have captured loads of character ! You could maybe try a different crop as below, for more impact.
