I rather think it would have been nice to see someone standing on the ladder. Unfortunately you can only photograph what is available and have captured the state of decay perfectly.

And from that angle, you did all that you could. Shooting into the light is bound to produce over bright skies and darker foreground. But you have obtained a reasonable balance with the second image.

Is it possible to go back in the evening or morning; whichever will let you have the building lit from the near side? From a composition point of view they all work. I agree with Geoff about the better light on #2

I am amazed the local government hasn't ordered this edifice demolished. The chimney alone is a threat to public safety. Unless that is the heaviest bird ever known and landed way too fast!

Geoff and Trevor, thanks for your input. These were taken around 1pm, and yes, I will return at some point in the morning when the sun is not staring in my face. This building has some kind of historical significance in the area, just not sure what. Can't get too close due to the fencing around the building and a couple not very friendly dogs. I will revisit this again though.

Stopped back this morning. Sun was not in my face and dogs not barking(actually they were not even there). Any better?

I think these photos are a great example of the importance of shooting the same scene at different times of the day. As we can see, there is a dramatic difference in clarity and color in the morning photos.
