Lilacbreasted Roller
The Lilacbreasted Roller is the national bird of Botswana and is seen regularly throughout the country. They like to sit on trees, poles and power-lines that generally overlook an open area.

Re: Lilacbreasted Roller
An beautiful bird. The head is surprisingly large for the body, its feet are completely hidden within its feathers, and the colouring is quite unusual, three fairly unique attributes in a single subject.

Re: Lilacbreasted Roller
Hi Paul, many thanks. I've just remebered a bit of history that in the days of King Lobengula of the Matabele anyone caught wearing the feathers except for the king was put to death.
