Re: How do you decide which are your best photos?

I'm trying to thin out the photos now and have drawn up a score sheet where I assess each image for sharpness, correct colour & saturation, composition, and overall impact. Then award points (from 1 to 5) in each of those 4 categories. A score of 14 or more is a keeper.

Suppose I will have to buy a clipboard next! But it does appear to be forcing me to make decisions.

The points system appears to be working OK and I have eventually managed to slash my store of images from this year's Festival to around 50 for internet use.

Once again, I found creating a new Gallery and uploading images a bit of a strain and had to make a few attempts at getting things correct. I feel sure it can't be this difficult for everyone so this is probably just another example of my internet stupidity.

    Hi Geoff,

It's a bit late now, but if you ever need help again uploading lots of pics to PBase, just send me a PM, there is a quick way I know with Windows Vista, may well be good for XP too.

Do you want to stick with the default 12 pics per page, or would you prefer fewer pages (with more pics on each)?

Hadn't realised you had pbase galleries Geoff; I like the boaty ones and will pepper a few comments around in a bit

Thanks for that. Please remember that some of the pbase photos were shot from a rolling boat, often into the sun, so have gained a place there based solely on composition, not technical merit!

When I next attempt to create another gallery I will have a serious look at the instructions and try to work out where I am getting confused.

    Hi Geoff,

Decided I'd post it here anyway, it may help others.

This should work for both Vista and XP flavours of Windows.

The best way to upload a whole gallery to PBase is to list the pictures on your PC in Window's Explorer, select all the ones you want to upload by keeping hold of the Ctrl key while you click on each in turn (so you have several highlighted/selected), then right click and choose 'Send To...', wait for the menu to appear and select 'Compressed (zipped) Folder'. That will create a special sub-folder in the folder where the images are. It just takes a little practice, if you're unfamiliar, to get the finger co-ordination right. It's alright for me, I do it all day long for a living

Now go to PBase, create the Gallery and while in the blue and white edit screen, click Browse and select that special folder name (instead of a single image), then click Upload button. It will take several minutes, I suggest you have a cup of tea(?), but when you get back, click Display this Gallery link and they should all be there.

    Cheers,

Thanks for the info. I did read about a zipped folder but got confused and frightened! My only experiences of zipped files has been frantically trying to unzip them from downloaded programmes etc; and have usually had to find some way of 'entering by the back door' before they would unzip and load into the required space.

However, next time (fairly soon) I will have a go with your clear instructions.
