I thought I would post my first picture.... This was taken with a Nikon P700 3 years ago, don't have the other settings. I'm shooting with Canon now...

Do you shoot your images in RAW and do you have post-processing software?
I think the difficulty with the image above is that the white on the side of the cat's face is blown out; i.e. it's gone to total white and has lost any detail.
