Wood ducks scouting nesting sites
I am always happy to catch some Wood Ducks and know that they nest high up in hollowed trees, but I have never caught them up a tree before. It was rough going trying to get clear shots.

Re: Wood ducks scouting nesting sites
Well done Paul on making the effort and getting the images under difficult conditions. What an attractive bird. Obviously sticks and twigs are getting in the way which is a shame.

Re: Wood ducks scouting nesting sites
Nice shots Paul, great focus. I agree with Clive on the first three that it is too bad the twigs are in the way. Commenting on the two floating I wonder about the color of the water. Was it really that yellow/gold color?

Yes Joe, in that spot at that time the sun was hitting the dry grass and cattails and that was the reflected color. Kinda cool I thought.

Re: Wood ducks scouting nesting sites
Amazing! I have never seen any web-footed creatures up in the branches of a tree! I guess I've led too sheltered a life! Great captures and for me, so different from anything I've seen before that I really don't care if there are branches in the way or not.

Re: Wood ducks scouting nesting sites
In many ways, being a slightly imperfect shot because of the twigs makes the scene more believable.

Paul
Great shots, I am surprised to see the wood ducks in a tree. In all my years in the woods I have yet to see them in other than the sky or water.
