Thanks Bryan, that was shot this morning. The owl appeared like it was going to take flight, so I switched from aperature priority to shutter priority which I had set at a shutter speed of 1/1600. When shooting birds I always have shutter priority set to either 1/1600 or 1/2000 depending on the light. It is quick to change from aperature to shutter and you can get some great shots of birds in flight. When one becomes familiar with their manner you get a sense if they will take flight.
