I am new to photography. I own a Nikon D70s with a 18-70mm lens. I just bought a Nikkor 105mm f2.8 micro lens. My question is, using the micro lens I hear a knocking sound. Is that normal?

I don't have that particular lens, but this doesn't sound good at all.
Did you get it new or used?

When does the knocking sound occur?
For that it's worth, a bit of a "clunk" as you hit the end of the zoom range is pretty normal.
ok ...that sound like it ..thanks for the quick reply.
Its a VR lens? There is a noticable click when VR engages and disengages*; wouldn't rate it as a knock or clunk, but my hearing isn't perfect. Try it with VR turned off.
*speaking from experience of my 80-400 which was the 1st VR Nikon produced, not your particular one
