Thread: Hi Everyone!!!

    Hi Everyone!!!

    Well, hello there!

My name is Ryan and I've recently caught the shutterbug disease.

I am self-taught - learned everything from forums and happened to stumble over this one and I feel like calling this one home.

I have only owned one camera, and I got it for my birthday, last April 20th.

    Here's my gear:

    Canon T3i (600D)

    Lenses:
    Super-Takumar 50mm f/1.4
MIR-1 37mm f/2.8 (original chrome version "Brussels Grand Prix" from the 60s)
    Helios 44-2 58mm f/2.0
    Pentax-M 135mm f/3.5
    Canon 50mm f/1.8
    Canon 18-55mm "kit" lens

I recently just bought the Canon 10-22mm to enable me to take some breathtaking landscape shots - maybe then I'll be able to hold my own on these competitions (everyone is so good here! It's intimidating - makes me not want to put any of my amateur photos up)

Anyways, thanks for being such a big help to my learning and I'm glad I can say hello to you all now!

    Sincerely,
    Ryan

    Ryan,

Welcome to CiC. I too thought maybe I was a bit in over my peerage when I joined, but have been delighted with the patience, tolerance and genuine goodwill of the most accomplished and experienced members toward the rawest beginners. And I've come to realize that most of us have our strengths as well as weaknesses photographically and very few are masters of it all. I've been a part of a couple other clubs/forums, and have by far found this to be the most friendly, least negative and confrontive, and least likely to look askance if one doesnt have a portfolio that includes nudes (which I surely dont-my 1 year old granddaughter is my only reliable model).

I've learned more here in the last 6 months than I had in the previous 5 years, and expect you'll do the same. Looking forward to seeing your work.

    All the best,

    Kevin

    Thanks for the warm welcome!!!

So, what's the best way to share my photos? Using the competitions or just regular posts?

Hey Ryan - welcome to the forums. If you're interested in getting some feedback on some of your work, you're better off posting them in the "Nature & Architecture", or "People & Pets" forums, along with some information as to how the shot was taken, what you've learned, what you would like to do differently, how you would like the photo to look etc..... The members here are great with constructive criticism, and if learning is what you want, those are the places to go.

The mini comps are great, and it's a lot of fun to see how you make out, but they're just so busy, there's no time to critique or comment on each photo. You'll get a lot more feedback from the regular forums.

Good luck, can't wait to see some of your work!

    That's great, Patrick!

Absolutely - the best camera is the one that's with you. I use that saying all the time for my audio work - the best recorder is the one that's with you.
