Joe, the brown bird is the female Red-winged Blackbird. Both the first and second seem a little over exposed. Nice capture of the spoonbill in flight. Now that last one....very nice the light on the wings pf the Dragon-fly is wonderful and not an easy feat. Very well done. Nice series Joe.
Joe, You're taking this seriously
The first shot is reminiscent of some of my attempts at Heron, way over exposed
I am finding that under exposure (of the general scene) is essential if you want sharp pictures of Herons, Egrets, etc. If you don't, the white blows and loses all detail and blooms across fine dark detail too How do I know, the hard way - in fact I even 'have the T-shirt'
I know how hard this is to get right, especially if the sun is going in-and-out all the time - but perhaps you don't have that problem in Florida.
The rest of the scene can always be brought back up in PP with the Fill Light control.
These are all good compositions, with sharp subjects.
Well done,
Thanks Dave, I appreciate your viewing, critique and comments. It is amazing what can be overlooked in hast to post a few from a days shooting. I have brought down the exposure of the whole scene and used the adjustment brush in Lightroom to control exposure and highlights on the herons. If you think this is better please comment. I keep striving to learn and comments and critique by my peers is important.
It is no doubt better! Pretty much saved that one. Even though the subjects are rather small, I like the shot for showing the surrounding landscape/environment in which the do their hunting. It still might be a touch over vibrant for my taste but oh so much better.
Thanks Paul...amazing what the post processing software can do.
No doubt Joe, my PP skills are still somewhat lacking and I am constantly amazed when I learn how to control things better. Small changes can make huge differences.
