Re: Still not my usual
If these are your first attempts at flower pics Paul then am just gonna give up!
Beautiful Aquilegias and not in the slightest bit flat.
I think I mainly prefer the ' cropped' versions with the exception of the last in the set.
What are you shooting with lens wise and what aperture mate?

Re: Still not my usual
Isn't it amazing what a slightly closer crop can do for the things in an image that you notice. Each crop has a different feel to it.

Re: Still not my usual
Thanks everyone.
Sharon, I have seen your flowers and in no way should you be giving up a thing! While these are not exactly my first shots of flowers....they are the first time I have pulled the camera out with the intention of shooting flowers. Out of the few keepers I have had in the past.... they have been caught when I am out for other things and I have only one....yes one that I have been impressed with and that is the Tulip shot I just showed in my "in conversation with" =}
These were shot with #1-F11 #2-F14 and #3-F8. I was using my 70-400G for these, it seems to do fairly nice close-ups.

Great shots. I really like the detail in the first one, both before and after being cropped. It gives me something to aspire to.
