    I also use and am generally pleased with .dng files. I Really Don't Like the idea of "sidecar xmp files".

    However, with Canon .cr2's, I've noticed that some EXIF'ish info is lost, specifically micro-focus-adjustment settings. I think there are some other DPP capabilities that depend on .cr2 embedded info that is lost when a .dng is generated.
