    Rocks

Saw something to like in the textures especially the dry/wet lichen in the first 2.

    #1 is a HDR, #2 is normal.

#3 is an attempt at selective colouring.

Somewhat unhappy that the foremost rock came out blurred. Will have to be more careful with DOF in future. Using the 70-300L instead of the shorter lens. It was drying from the drenching it got a bit earlier while trying to get some waterfall shots.

    Comments appreciated and welcomed.

That was going to be my comment .... until I saw that you had made it yourself!

I like #1, I like the detail and water; not too mushy.

For me, it is definitely #2. The most natural, although I wonder if it might take a slight increase in highlights to produce a little extra contrast.

Or a slight touch of Local Contrast Enhancement might be worth a try.

Either way, just a little; don't overdo it.

    Thanks Donald, Steve, Geoff.

Yes LCE might be worth a try. I don't know if it is PIcasa but recently have found that uploaded images seem slight "washed-out" but look just fine on the monitor. Have had to increase contrast beyond what I normally would do to counter that. Sometimes I forget of course.

    Re: Rocks

There are a number of things which can cause slight reduction of quality in uploaded images.

Using a colour profile other than sRGB or failure to resharpen after a substantial image downsize are a couple of the commonest causes.

Uploading with too large a file size so the photo gets automatically resized by the host site is another.

But some shots just seem to appear somewhat pale and soft when uploaded; particularly if they were a little low in contrast to start with.

Thanks Geoff, could be either the 2nd or 3rd cause. Will try to resize/shapen next time something is uploaded.
