What makes this one not work so well as it could, in my opinion, is that fact that the bottom of the shadow line is not running in parallel with the other horizontals.
I could maybe borrow that sign for my front gate!
It's a work of art in its own right and would cost a fortune to make nowadays. What you'd get now is a bit of plastic.
But I suppose 'Please shut the gate' might have been a bit more friendly. But maybe they'd already tried that.
