Hello from Virginia USA
Hello,
Just found this excellent site and looking forward to participating. I come from a film background, after a long hiatus (funny how life gets in the way eh?) I'm relatively new to digital. I am shooting Micro FourThirds, primarily because I am an avid hiker, and have always dragged a camera along for off trail wanderings here on the east coast of the USA.
I will post photos, and I hope you'll 'beat 'em up' for me. I want to learn. I am currently building my lens selection, so it's limited at the moment, but will acquire the best I can afford as they come out into production.
Probably my biggest hurdle is I run Linux as my OS, which means no Photoshop, and I really don't want to fool with it anyway. I currently use SilkyPix, and LightZone (sadly no longer in production) as my PP software, and just started fooling around with GIMP and DarkTable. I prefer having PP software that is quick and easy to work with, so I'm not set on any one in particular. Open to suggestions from fellow Linux users. My intended goal is always to acquire the best exposure in camera as I can rather than machine-gun and PP later. So I'm open to suggestions there as well.
Thanks to all the contributors here, it's going to be a fun learning experience. I'll chime in when I actually have something worthwhile to say.
In case you're wondering.............Va3Pinner.......... I spend a lot of time on the snow when it comes. Hiking becomes gliding on XC and tele gear. I might grow up one of these days, but until then, I'll keep my camera with me.
