I just wanted to mention how much I enjoy your image, "The Elder." It reminds me so much of the classic portraits made in the last half of the 19th century, especially the images made by Julia Margaret Cameron. I suspect that if more people were aware of the history of photography, yours would have been the winning image, and deservedly so.
I wonder if I could persuade you to consider blurring the area of the ear to match the blur of the rest of the image. For me, it seems a little too sharp for the rest of the image.
In these days of pixel peeping when sharpness seems all too often to be the most important goal, I was especially glad to see that so many people voted for your image. I would have thought that most would not appreciate an unsharp image and I'm so glad to be very wrong about that.
