Last night's moon
Have not taken a moon shot for many months and last night's moon over the clouds was too cool to miss.
2 shots merged. 1 exposed for the clouds the other exposed for the moon. Bit of sharpening/contrast adjustment on the moon shot.
Better as is or converted to full b/w ?
Thanks.

Too cool indeed Bobo. Nicely done. I like it just the way it is.

Re: Last night's moon
Thanks Dave.
Thanks Allen - the moon was shot at f8, 1/200, iso 100. The clouds at iso 200, f9, 1/15 (my limit at hand-holding) both at 300mm. The lens is the Canon 70-300L.

Re: Last night's moon
Very nice pic.
I like it the way it is - it already is 90% BW and I think the bit of colour in the clouds simply adds to the beauty.

Re: Last night's moon
Thanks everyone. I tried the conversion but it looked bleh! My conversion skills help in that regard of course.

Re: Last night's moon
Very Nice Bobo. I really like the detail you captured there in both the clouds and the moon.

Re: Last night's moon
Thanks Ian, Carl.
Ian - not really all that steay, 1/15 is my slow limit, anything slower will need some support. Usually though I would reach for some support at about 1/30.
Could have tried using GNDs for the shot without a merge but was too lazy to setup the tripod.

Re: Last night's moon
Well, 1/15 is way slower than my limit, depending on the lens.
I checked with my 105 macro (1.5 crop, so 160mm equivalent)... even with the VR I need a shutter speed close to 1/100 to be sure I'm not affecting the sharpness by shaking... with 300mm I'd probably need a 1/500!

Re: Last night's moon
I find that too with my macro 150, with AF the IS works just fine and in tandem. In MF, the IS kicks in and always causes the focus to go off.
