What a wonderfully atmospheric and well-composed image.
I wonder if it would be helped if the gentleman's clothing (and perhaps the skin tones) were brightened slightly, just to separate him from the background and make him stand out.

Donald is correct, I think a slight adjustment would bring out the details and take it up a level.

Excellent environmental portrait! It shows the merchant surrounded by his wares.
I would also like to see the merchant brightened a bit so that he stands out from his surroundings. I often like to use a bit of fill flash - bouncing with a Joe Demb diffuser to set my subject apart from his background. I always carry a little Canon 270EX flash and a Demb Photojournalist FlipIt either in my photo vest or on the camera. It doesn't have the power to iluminate large areas but, it can provide fill when used in ETTL mode and bounced with the FlipIt modifier.
