Right, pay attention - PP Challenge #13 is hereby declared open for business!
The closing date for entries into this thread is about July 14th (once I get back from holiday/vacation).
The purpose of the challenge is to provide all members with the same image and with it, an opportunity to explore and develop their post-processing skills and to examine and learn from how they and others approach the task. Although there will be a vote, the idea is not to be competitive, but to engage in a learning process. So, discussions and exchanges of views as we go along, are encouraged, although it would be helpful to avoid the 'Wow', 'I love it' type posts if we can.
The image file:
The file for this challenge has been provided by ..... me! Peter who won PP Challenge #12 didn't have a suitable image to put up. So, as I prepare to head off to the glorious Southern Rhone vineyard in France in a couple of weeks, here is one from last year taken in Fleurie in the wonderful Beaujolais region of France (I'm into wine as well!)
And the image?
You can download:
The RAW file (14Mb) here
A TIF version (29Mb) here
And a JPG (4Mb) version is here
And your task - Use this as the basis for an image that's to be used to promote and market the wines of the Beaujolais region of France
The culture and values of CiC as embraced by its members makes the need for over-formalisation of procedures & guidelines largely unnecessary. However, we cannot always know who is joining the forum and some formalisation is required, particularly to protect the work of the person who has offered the image for post-processing.
These procedures are:-
You download the image, process it and then post it back up to this thread.
Photographs should be posted in this thread before the closing date (don't leave it too late).
No voting allowed for your own entry.
Each entrant will be allowed one submission.
All entrants must work on the file made available for download (at the bottom of this post). Any other image posted into the thread will be deleted.
Entrants may use appropriately licensed images to assist in the creative process, but the original must remain the basis of the finished product and the entered image be a representation of that original.
The image file made available for the challenge will remain the sole property of the person who made it available for the purpose, under a Creative Commons SA Licence. A full copy of the licence can be viewed here
NB - The best way of dealing with this formality is to resolve that the only thing you will do with the image you downloaded is work on it for entry in this challenge and that you WILL NOT use it for any other purpose.
Voting, Choosing the next image file and telling us How You Did It:-
When announced, voting (open to any member) will be by Private Message (PM) to Donald, over a period of two days or so. This will ask you simply to say which you think demonstrates best PP skills and artistic presentation. Automated voting may be introduced at a later stage.
The ‘winner’ of one challenge will be asked to provide an image for the next challenge, or delegate that ‘honour’ to a Mod. The ‘winner’ will also be invited to tell us what they did (so keep a note).
Have fun ... and good luck!

As a point of interest, I have used the "English Tea Can Painting" method for effect. Should anyone wish to try this approach, the details are as follows:
1. Open image
2. Adjustments> Shadow highlight, move slider fully.
3. Filter> Stylise> Find edges.
4. Edit> Fade find edges, opacity 100%, Mode: Luminosity.
Now reduce opacity slider to approx 33%
5. Apply
6. For further effect you can ..
Leave or Adjust ... Brightness leave at 0 and increase Contrast > +75
Leave or Adjust ... Hue at 0 and increase Saturation > = 50
7. Finally, I next opened a nice bottle of wine from the Gamay grape, poured out a glassful and then placed it on the picture in an area that looked wanting.

Reason: Descriptor text placed into same post as image
Hi!
It's my first action inhere and I send this view of this challenge you put around (excuse my english). I'm not a photographer. I'm mainly a Photoshop user and it please me to try something with this challenge.
I'd give the kind of smoke a winy color in order to let know by the absurd that there's more than a step or two before acquiring a good wine ; so my title is : Don't think we save steps!
Thank you for your comments...

Reason: including my photograph... The system doesn't seem to get it ???
Saved as .jpeg and converted to CMYK. Very simply Contrasted and Unsharpened by 15 - 20% then went to Levels (Cyan and Yellow) and moved the middle triangle slightly to the right in each. Reverted to RGB and saved. Voila!

I took the picture in RAW and choose the Auto correct in CS5 then inport it into a label design and add some of my brushes and text to complete the lable. Made brushes for the first time!! and also edited the stamp with France written inside the stamp.

Reason: adding the picture
Thanks for this challenge, it made me think and I had to put my fears behind me and start making brushes for myself! I enjoyed the process and is very proud of my piece of art!
Had problems uploading and not sure it worked. Anyway, my goal in pp'ing the image was to warm and enrich the scene, making it more enticing for red wine drinkers. In ACR I warmed the sunlit image and also reduced the amount of smoke using the adjust tool. I used content aware fill to eliminate the asphalt and Tony Kuyper's luminosity actions to increase contrast a bit and brighten the image. Also used his action for web sharpening.
Now I'm thirsty but it's too early for wine here.
