Re: Abraham Lincoln and his friend at sunrise
For me, Mike, that shot works well as a 'scene setter' and gives a good sense of proportion; but ideally, I would also like to have seen a second shot from much closer, or zoomed in. Which showed just the statue, part of two pillars and the man sitting on the steps.

Mike
Nice capture. Nice touch having just a single tourist for sense of proportion and a bit of delay. The visitor's knees almost exactly mirror the statue- do you happen to have a shot with the visitor sitting more upright, like the president?

Re: Abraham Lincoln and his friend at sunrise
Thanks for the thoughful critique, guys!
Geoff: I actually do have an image as you described. Though the expression on the person's face was not bad, it also was not helpful. I'll post it later today or probably tomorrow to learn whether you agree with me about it.
Kevin: I was very fortunate that there were no other tourists in view. That's quite unusual, so much so that I was shocked. No, I don't have an image with the person doing a better job of imitating the president's posture.

Re: Abraham Lincoln and his friend at sunrise
Geoff: I had an unexpected break in my schedule that allowed me to get to the other image. I wish I had left more space at the top, but it's not there in the original. As I mentioned, I'm also not exactly enthralled by the person's facial expression. All in all, not as good as the first image in my mind.
Your thoughts, anyone?

Hi Mike,
My thoughts;
Looking at the first picture, there's really no detail above the bit missing in the second ...
so you could extend the canvas vertically and clone extend the columns and background upwards.

Re: Abraham Lincoln and his friend at sunrise
Dave: Thanks for the idea. However, the columns become physically smaller higher up and the keystoning (which I like) emphasizes that. I'm thinking that extending the canvas won't work. I'll try it tomorrow, but I'm skeptical.

I don't see anything particularly wrong with the man's facial expression and zoomed in like that really shows off the size of the statue; and plenty of detail with it.
