Re: Owlets
Thanks Paul and Dave.
Happy to have caught them but the light and position was terrible. Not entirely happy with the quality of these shots but....
Yes, the one in #6 is some character. He is the one in the middle in #1 and also stars in #4 and #5.
#2 and #3 are much younger and from a different family I found today.

Re: Owlets
Hi Bobo
It's most unfortunate that bird subjects don't seem to understand the importance of background. They seem to think it 'beneath' their dignity to purposely station themselves for our delectation! You fooled them though - no. 2 was cooperating. I loved the little comic character too.
Cheers

Re: Owlets
Thanks Nihia.
Zoos have those almost good conditions - that is why I never go to one.
Backyards have more helpful features - that is why I never shoot in one.
But like every photographer - that is why I will mutter and cuss not matter how good things are.

Re: Owlets
You're so lucky that you get to see such a large amount of wildlife where you live. I'm very jealous.
I love owls and I love these pics! Very cute!

Re: Owlets
Great shots Bobo! They take me back to February when my wife and I spent hours watching and shooting Barred Owls with one Owlet. I am jealous you have three with such character and personality. Keep shooting my friend.

Re: Owlets
They certainly are cute. Looks like they get into a lot of mischief and are a real handful for the poor mum. Great shots.

Re: Owlets
How cute are they, such a wonderful subject. Only one thing is perhaps crop some of them to avoid the distracting branches (5 & !). Love your work Bobo.

Re: Owlets
Wow great photos Bobo. The second is my favourite with the owlet posing in line with the tree and the simple colourful background. You are so lucky to have these on hand to photography, I am yet to see an owl in the wild despite me always walking around with my head looking up at trees

Re: Owlets
Thanks everyone for your kind words.
About finding owls - winters are obviously easier then summers due to less foliage. Even then they tend to go into pine trees so that is not much help sometimes. The best aid is know your area, look around for people carrying binoculars and see what they are doing and look around for photographers pointing into trees. If looking into trees look for beehive like blobs. Those will be their tails. They blend very well and it is almost impossible to see them if they are high up.
The best tip is scan tree branches, trunks, and the surrounding ground for poo. That is a surest sign that there is something up that particular tree. In #2 and #3 in Textures notice that whitish stuff? That is what it will look like in trees or on the ground.
As suggested. Closer crops.

Re: Owlets
Sorry, got to say I prefer the uncropped versions. #1 is my favorite. The branches frame the trio. I can imagine the left one telling a joke, story or giving instructions and the right one leaning over to hear better. A lovely set.
