New to DSLR, first week shooting manual.
Hi, my name is Scott Wilson. I live in NW Montana, which is great for photography. I have been exposed to the photography learning process while my wife learned, but I didn't pay much attention and only used her camera when she set it and told me to take a head shot (she's an author). Now I am really wanting to switch gears and get very serious about photography. My wife is a hobbyist, but I am hoping to take it even further eventually. This is my first week ever using a camera manually. I am using the book Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson to learn. I didn't have a tripod for the pictures in my album since my wife's was broken. Stumps don't make good tripods, by the way. I did my best. Currently waiting on a set of filers (I only have an ND for the lens I use most). I was referred here by a photographer friend of my wife and she said it's a great community. I can't wait to learn more! Thank you in advance for all help.

Welcome Scott, you have certainly come to the right place to learn as there is a wealth of knowledge here. Which is given freely and friendly like. I need to get back over your way again soon. Miss my fishing trips. I used to spend a week Fly-fishing the Beaverhead and Madison around the Salmonfly hatch. If you have any specific questions, do ask.
Other than that...be sure to check out the tutorials, the are well written and easy to understand {not needing to be the techogeek to understand}
Good day
