Poppy Variations
A couple from my garden. These variations do occur here occasionally, particularly the dark red version.
That one is quite crinkly but I haven't fully captured that from this angle and they were both a bit battered by wind and rain.
Shot indoors with a daylight bulb. I tried a selection of backdrops but eventually went for a plain black.
That was actually just a black ring binder placed behind the flowers. I think I will have to create some better black backgrounds.

Re: Poppy Variations
Hi Geoff,
These are beautiful,,,sharp and yet delicate.
The background do come out a bit 'bleh' brown but the first one works fine with the tonals..and it is slightly off centre which gives it interest.
I have used perspex..fabric, felt and most successfuly muslin and Foam Board.
Foam board can be bought at craft stores and bends so you get a seamless basckground.
The poppies themselves are perfect.

Beautiful clear shots. They almost look like they are paper.

Re: Poppy Variations
Thanks. I think I have a slight WB problem with the dark red poppy. I should have done a Custom WB on a white card first; or ideally a proper grey card.
Fiddled a bit with changing the WB during Raw conversion but had a lot of problems with colour variations on the petals if I set the background to pure black.
I will try some other backgrounds and may even try simply printing out a black card to see how that works.

I like the flowers. The color and texture of them-wow- I'm jealous.

Re: Poppy Variations
Nice images Geoff. Maybe a WB problem with the red poppy but unless one sees the actual poppy next to the image it doesn't show. You handled the red well, that color can blow out so easy. Focus spot on, nice detail and depth of field.
