Flowers from around the yard

Shot these in my uncles back yard:





I really like the second, but the edit is off, what caught my eye was the translucent quality of the flowers from the way the sun was hitting them. Working the image in CS5 I was trying to give them some separation from the background, I used colors and a curves layer. Perhaps the image needs a darker backdrop?
